Comment: As far as I am concerned, movies made in Québec usually aren't up to par with the quality of other movies, with the exception of co-productions with some European production companies."Dans Une Galaxie Près de Chez Vous" started out much like Star Trek did, appealing to a cult audience of young viewers who liked to laugh for a good half hour. The series gained popularity in the province's youth, growing into quite possibly the biggest movie related family event of recent years.
Featuring a crew of half-crazy canadians coursing through space, seeking a new home for the dying human race, the intelligent mix of comedic elements with drama and an entertaining story, along with an experienced cast of actors who are well acquainted with their characters makes this movie, in my humble opinion, one of the best movies to ever have been produced in Québec.
Compared to our usual 'burlesque' and 'grotesque' comedies, this one's intelligent, entertaining, and has something appealing for kids of all ages. Highly recommended from this viewer, and fan.
The DVD, in french, is subtitled in english, which is a big plus for the english population that wishes to see this gem. The second disk, containing cast interviews, on-set featurettes and a very lenghty 'Bloopers' outtakes reel is just pure candy for fans of the series.
All in all, if you're a fan, you probably already have this DVD. If you're not, give it a shot, it's bound to have something that'll interest you. An excellent family film, on par with "Shrek 2" and "Garfield".
