An obscure museum's dead proprietor lies in a secret room surrounded by one of the world's most astonishing collections of Greek antiquities. Only a priceless Mycenaean death mask has been taken, along with the bones of a legendary hero thought to exist only in ancient myth. Looted by the Nazis, the treasures are still being sought by those whose dreams of glory remain undefeated.
The mask is an unparalleled discovery that will be a force for devastating retribution in the wrong hands. But by the time museum curator Deborah Miller learns the truth, it may be too late not only to save herself--but to reveal to the world the awesome secret she's uncovered.

Customer Rating: Summary: Ken Comment: I liked the book, but if you've ever been to GA... to go from Athens to Atlanta by way of Red Top Mtn & Lake Allatoona, you would probably detour by way of Chattanooga, TN. This is STUPID. The writer & EDITORS should check their directions. I've "written Steven Coont's off my list of readables" for the same reason.
KEN L from Spring, TX.
Customer Rating: Summary: A great page turner Comment: The Mask of Atreus was the first book of Hartley's that I have read. I'll definitely be reading more. At the start of the story, I wondered if the author was going to write a clone of Da Vinci Code, but no, it veered off in another direction very quickly. There were suspenseful turns in the storyline that kept you guessing till almost the end. The bad guy was a little predictable, but the play out of the storyline was suspenseful just the same. Hartley wound several sub-stories through the book and did a very good job of weaving them together in the end.
Customer Rating: Summary: Lots of Tension and Suspense Comment: Although the storyline for this book reads much like many other "find the key to a problem, while racing against the clock to save the world from imminent disaster, it is much more than that. The flowing style of the author's writing makes for easy reading and there is a well structured balance between the historical and archaeological content of the book. The author is careful not to rely too heavily on these subjects, which may be a little off putting or boring to some, but not all readers.
An out of the way, little known museum is the scene of the murder of its owner. He is found in a secret room surrounded by a unique collection of Greek artifacts. Deborah Miller who finds the body, is herself a museum curator and is baffled by the fact that only a Mycenaean death mask and some bones attributed to a legendary hero, although thought to be a myth rather than a real person.
Deborah Miller is soon embroiled in a mystery that threatens to claim her life before she is able to find the truth. But she is determined to see the mystery through to the end and Deborah is drawn to Greece and Russia in her attempt to find out what really happened
There is lots of suspense in the book and the author handles this side of the story with aplomb. The tension builds up as the story progresses and keeps the reader guessing until the very end.
Customer Rating: Summary: A quick read. Comment: This book is a quick read. I enjoyed reading it because it moved fast once you get about 100 pages in. There's not a lot of thinking needed when reading this book, which is not a good thing since I believe books (especially fiction) should be somewhat thought provoking.
pros- a solid heroin, murder, nazi's
cons- are we that foolish to believe that museums do not have security cameras?
Customer Rating: Summary: Quite boring Comment: I found this book very boring. Mostly about a young woman and her relationship issues with her own self. Not until the last few chapters does this book have any excitement and/or suspense.
